Might be a silly question , but can anyone explain why there are so many different shape hulls ? Yes there are boats for river use which would be no good on the sea as far as stability but the choice for inshore or off shore work ...?

good question,i dont have the answer:(

why so many different reels---rods----rigs----that all do the same:confused:

aye....displacement, semi-displacement, cathedral,.......deep v...god i wish i had the answer....depends what you want from a boat ?

speed ? stability ? bit of both ?

like dunc says.......????

the reply's will come.....:)

Best thing to do is Google...Planing Hulls, Semi Displacement Hulls and Displacement hulls you will find answers there.....:)
Stability wise i dont think you can beat a RIB....:)

Different strokes for different folks mate, not everyone wants to plod out to the wrecks at 8 knots ;)

Good question beach boy, the design of the hull of a boat
or ship is based around what it will be primarily used for.
ie, you wouldn't use a speed boat hull to tow a barge,
or a displacement hull to get back into port with a naughty
Easterly bearing down on you.
The way I see it is if you want a working platform then a
Catemeran or cathedral hull are the best , and with a few
horses pushing you home are the biz.
Old converted lifeboats and klinker built boats are great
For lazy days inshore. ( the best fishing imo ) great thread btw :)
