Braid

Evening lads. I am looking to buy braid for my TLD 25 this summer. Contrary to what my partner Kayos has said previously WE do not like it, HE doesn't. The same as his nonsense about having to use level wind reels!

So my question is - the cheap braid from China on ebay- is it any good- or do I need to be buying more expensive UK based braid?

Advice gratefully received. :)

Lynn

I have 30lb on me fixed spool Lynn had it on for nearly 4yrs and still going strong. But for quality and a rounder profile you cant beat the more expensive stuff......also on eBay

UK based stuff is likely as not from China anywho...we pay the premium because we can have it quicker

The Chinese braid on eBay is perfectly fine...it just takes a month to get to you :D

Welcome to NESA Lynn :D

(Mark has been quiet :D)

Yeah it's fine but I would say go up a size, 80lb Chinese braid is more like 55lb Dynon 3000.

You can have a good laugh when Mark traps his finger in his level wind :D:D

I've been using it for 2 years now, and never had a problem with it, it's best to order it pre-season due to the delivery time...:)

Welcome to NESA Lynn, as Tony says, Mark has been very quiet lately...:D

Braid

I have just bought 300 metres of it for less than a fiver from this company tom_top uk and i no they are a import company but it only took 12 days which amazed me and its as good as any i have bought through the far east companys and i have it on my boat reels and all my fixed spools .If you order from them and it comes as quick as mine did im sure the lads would like to no as its better than waiting the usual 4 weeks , good luck .

Been using the braid from China for over 4 years now and very satisfied with it. The only thing I find, is the colour usually fades, and if you use the dark colours, they end up splashing all over me nice clean boat:rolleyes:
The quickest I've had from China is 10 days, but once it took 5weeks.

I was dubious because like folk say " u get what u pay for" but I can't fault this Chinese braid! . Took advise from lads off here and went up to 80lb spool and been great

Hi Lynn

This is the first year I have bought some straight from china, it only took about 10 days to arrive, fished with it the first time on Monday and I would agree with Keith about breaking strain, I normally use 50lb braid on my multipliers and 40lb traces so when snagged trace always parts and not the braid, on Monday snagged up 4 times and each time the braid parted and not the trace......learning curve......order stronger braid or change to lighter traces!!!

I just got some 10lb braid off Ebay, from China, for a light spinning set up I have and it took 8 days to arrive. Last year 60lb braid from the same company took 11 days to arrive.

I haven't fished with either yet but the lads on here highly recommend it.

This was the seller that was recommended to me:-

hoxj82 on eBay

I use 80lb spectra braid from China for wrecking and rough ground, traces are 60 lb mono with 50lb hook lengths .
The trace as always parted before the braid.

Awe, poor Mark!

Thanks for the replies guys. What length of mono leader/trace should I use please?

I'm surprised Mark managed to write even one sentence. It's his birthday on Tuesday so I am taking him out for a meal in Glasgow today. However we were on the wine last night and he is looking decidedly green around the gills, as he lies motionless on the couch! I of course feel brand new!

I will order some braid and get it on the TLD for the summer charters, can't wait! While my dinosaur will continue with mono and level winds!!

I fear he is in for another spanking this summer!! :)

No we’re not ganging up on you Mark, I agree with you. Now what opinion was it I need to agree with? :)

Lynn, the Chinese braid is great value, tough, strong and available in lengths that are long enough even to fill a spool as big as a TLD25. But, what I like about braid, other than no stretch, is its low diameter which makes it easier to control in a current. If you anticipate fishing in deep water where the drift may be fast (above about 3/4 of a knot) then nothing beats the thinnest lines like Berkley’s Whiplash.
