Braid

Braid

Hi Lynn and welcome to NESA
I have a unused 300mtr spool of 80lb spectra braid in moss green which you can willingly have to try, just pm me an address you want it sent to.
I've gone down in line strength and doubt I'll use it.

Braid, Mono, level wind, shads, bait, hokkais

many ways lead to Rome and on a good day all that does not matter.

However...what you dont want is anglers on a busy boat with a fast drift, where one has a shad on braid and 14oz sinker and another one lowers his christmas tree of hokkais down on thick mono and a 8oz sinker. The lines will have different bends and everybody gets tangled...and we all know how annoying it is to untangle braid from mono.

If everyone has similar line and sinkers, one can get through an entire day without that problem.

Therefore rule of thumb: The deeper you fish, the faster you drift and the more you intend to move the bait (shads) the more you would want to use braid.
