i have used the spectra braid myself and though its as cheap as chips and good value for money,i find it wears a groove in your thumb due to the friction as its quite coarse and not greased like berkley whiplash braid.my thumb was red raw after a double boat trip over one weekend.but still a good buy for anyone.

a thimble or a cut-off thumb of a rubber glove might be the cheaper option.

Just wrap your thumb with tape, or I wear a glove.
