brake collars

I have just removed the red brake collars out me new daiwasaltist 35H because i want to gain the maximum casting distance possible, do you reckon its was the best idea to have of removed them saying as i have only used the reel once.

if you remove the brake blocks the reel will run to fast try using 1 block and thinner oil till you get the right combination with out crack offs and over runs

It takes a while for new bearings etc. to run in properly & spin out any excess oil, so I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to ditch the brake blocks! When I get a new reel I always clean out the bearings (as they're often greased for storage / transport) and re-lube with a few specks of yellow RF which I like, but they still speed up a little bit as the bearings get run in.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest a cleaning of the bearings first, followed by a few sessions to get the bearings running, then maybe downsize the brake-blocks if needed (I use 2 of the tiny white ones in my Saltists).

Gary :)
