Can any one recommend a good breathable / gortex waterproof jacket in price range up to £150 bracket looked on eBay etc but no further forward. Any help on this would be great 😊 thanks steven

if you're looking for a quality waterproof jacket take a look at what the sailing boys use they are some of the best waterproofs you can get I use a Gill OS2 jacket money well spent

berghaus is for old ladies :D

Have a look at this link aswell:-

It has a fold away hood in the collar and a removable light fleece inside-

Berghaus, Gortex and on special at £120 they have them at
the shiremoor shop.

Berghaus are small fitting, so I would not buy on line, heres the link

Berghaus Mens RG Delta 3in1 Jacket Carbon - Berghaus from Great Outdoors UK

That's not goretex !

Had no problem with sizes. I'm just shy of 6ft3 and 44 chest and xl fits me. The xxl might be a better option for the bfb.

The Gill stuff looks good but is it ok for a long walk in the summer? Can imagine it's a little hot.

good point but you'll find most people can sweat quicker than any of today's so called breathable fabrics can get rid of the moisture
only ever used in the winter have lighter jackets for summer

Mens Mera Peak Jacket - BLACK - Gaynor Sports

That's the old model and you can pick the new one up for 170. I have had one for a few years and use it for fell walking and rate it highly, have been out in some horrendous weather and remained dry, they are also quite breathable so sweat is reduced.

Would strongly recommend as well !
Bought mine in early 2000's, know it was before 2004 ?
Still going strong ! Were £250 when first came out, you got a 200 pro fleece with it, which was worth £50.
It was top of Berghaus range at time .
Has Gortex membrane, rather than coating...which is more effective, and long lasting!
You can zip a 200 berghaus fleece in, or , out so is truly 4 season !
I use mine in skiing...ski'd in -23 @ the bottom of the mountain ? @ Top had ice forming on my cheeks, but jacket spot on !
Has one of the best rated, wired hoods on the market, and i will validate that ! You can shape the hood to deflect the prevailing weather, and shield your face.
Only thing is I like mine so much...I couldn't take it fishing....Blacks guts, and muscle juice......Nooooo!:o

Mel....

mera peak ive had for a few years now good jacket but make sure you clean regular because the metal part of the bottom zip corroded away

As this is in the shore angling section do we presume that it's to be worn for fishing?

I only ask as, like previous contributors, I've done a fair bit of hill walking and skiing. First time I skied, in the late 70's I was dressed in salopettes, white arran jumper, my mam's wooly mitts and a pompom hat. Taking it a step further I bought a gortex jacket from Phoenix who had a factory shop in Amble, if my memory is correct. It cost nearly £100 then. As other comments it was waterproof, breathable and so light it was untrue, so when it came to a warmish winter night's fishing rather than wear the yellow oilskins I had, why not wear the super light, perfectly dry, state of the art top?

Fished the Slatey Gut, can't remember what I caught but know I got fast 5 times because next morning there were 5 lines around the left shoulder of the jacket where the gortex used to be. Took it back to Phoenix and looked at the bloke with tear stained eyes and he replaced the sections of gortex for nothing.

Point is - gortex and fast haad's don't get on with one another. Have had a Berghaus/Fleece interactive for a few years now and can't fault it.
