Brid two day comp

This weekend all booked up digs sorted and paid, bait got and extra bait ordered.
Now the weather turned to strong easterly's for Sat and Sunday and thousands of anglers unable to undo arrangement for this weekend.
The organisers have now opened the Humber up right up to the bridge knowing the open beaches will be way impossible to fish so looks like a flatty comp now lads.
Bloody very disappointed but 35K and a car to win will still attract the competitors to east Yorkshire for this prestige annually comp.
Still will be a good night out for a pint.:D
See you there if you going, and best of luck in the mud.:D

I have fished beaches for over 40years but I have never fished in the conditions we had over this weekend.
First off we caught nownt.
On the Saturday when we looked out of the window we were greeted with driving rain with sleet and snow driven by a very strong east wind blowing 25-35mph.
We all stopped at the new caravan park at Tunstall near the weigh in and reg for the comp and the set up was great with all new 8birth vans well kitted out with everything you need.
At 6.30am we put a plan together and me and Blanchie decided to give the open beaches a go for the cod rather than the river Humber for the flatty's the other lads went to the river.
We had a look up the coast and the sea was big very big but running straight onto the beach and no side rollers so we plumed for Hornsea north beach.
We set up camp at high water with our shelters backed up to the wind and dug in.
At the start of the match 10am we cast out into the caldron of boiling white foam lashed sea and could only hold bottom using 200grm weights with thick wires bent in hard to the lead but we were fishing and we thought as the tide pushed up it would get better as deep water would make holding out easier.

As the tide got over the sand bar the problems started...weed, lumps of wood tree trunks and loads of rubbish making holding out difficult to say the least, I lost line and end gear but stuck it out for the full match 4pm and was I pleased when 4pm came.
Back at the weigh in 3 cod only came to the scales best 4lb and a few flats.
We looked at the forecast for the Sunday and we both agreed to head home so didn't fish today.
Just had a message only 12 fish weigh today and no cod at all. Spurn road closed also due to sea breaching the road.
Not sure of the full results but I believe the guy with the 4lber won the comp winning a car and a few grand in cash so at least someone is happy.
And I say well done to all of them that weighed in, they deserved something from the weekend.:)
Also Ian Miles NESA casting lad had a 2.5lb cod and I think he came 2nd or 3rd,well done.:)

Guid report there Harry ma laddie was there and he said conditions were really rough he only had a couple o flatties cheers James:o

You're right Harry it was grim! My cod was 2.77lb on Saturday and got me 2nd. Sunday was worse, but still managed to fish the coast and hold bottom on the beach before going up on the cliffs. I think only 27 of 1000+ weighed in on Saturday and only 12 weighed in on Sunday. No cod caught Sunday. I've never fished in conditions like that and wouldn't have thought it possible to cast a lead in that wind on Sunday (it was hard to stand up on the cliff!). Fished right through but blanked. I needed a bit more than a flatty to win overall, so fished the sea rather than river.

So, for the two day aggregate the Saturday top three places stood as no flatty was going to knock a cod off the top and the top three blanked. I got 2nd overall.

What was frustrating was I was something like 1.1lb short of first, but saying that, the largest flatty on Sunday was something like 0.95lb, so even if I'd caught that it wouldn't have pipped me into first place and the proud owner of a new car!

Nice to see you on the day Harry.

Ian.

Well done Ian, yes a hard weekend fishing and not much about but it was the same for all.
The full results just up on the Holderness forum.

By the way did you eat at the park on Sat night.lol.
