Broadband and Phone calls.

Following on from The Westwinds thread about car insurance I thought I would post about my ISP. I have used AOL since I first started on the interweb, there were a few little problems at first but nothing to bad. After I spoke to friends I realised I was much better off than a lot of them lol. Over the years it has got better and better and I could'nt find one small thing to complain about now.

I was sick of my service from BT so when I was offered a free Laptop two years ago from AOL to move my phone calls through them, I jumped at the chance. I don't use the phone that much but my bills were a hell of a lot cheaper putting everything together with AOL.

I got a phone call today from AOL asking if I was still happy with their service and would I like a new contract. He gave me the details and I said yes straight away. They have cut my Broadband down by £7:00 a month and all of my phonecalls are now free to 01, 02 and 03 numbers anywhere in the country. I now have broadband and phone calls for £12:99 a month and the broadband service is fantastic.

I keep getting calls from BT asking me to go back, I usually just tell them to leave me alone, well something like that . I can't wait for them to call me the next time and I will let them go through their full speel before I ask them if they can beat what I already have lol. Aol seem to be one of the are one of the few firms that seem to reward customers that stay with them year after year. I wonder if they are going to start doing this with all of their customers as I was told years ago that over there they pay for their PC line but not for local calls.

A nice change to get something without having to ask.

Hi I`m with AOL but been thinking of swapping to someone else as I too have been with them for about 15 year and over the years they crept up there prices without telling us but like Jim I couldn`t fault the service but since they sold out to Talk Talk it went downhill, I had software issues that took a bit of resolving especially since if you rang up for help it would be someone on the phone I struggled to understand and they seemed to have little or no computer knowledge and became obvious they were reading what to do off a screen so it was quite frustrating to have to go through everything again and again this resulted in me ringing up and saying look skip the first couple of pages coz I know your just reading it off a screen and get to screen whatever.

My experience of loyalty from them for being with them for years they said I need there wireless router and they would send one Oh thanks I said then found out they took 40 quid out my account and signed me up for a contract for 1 year for a more expensive account, they got there router back in the next post with a demand to put the money back.

Ironically due to of the lack of good service and them refusing to give me an upgrade router for free that was needed as I moved onto vista that there old modem wouldn’t work on let alone a laptop I have come pretty clued up around the pc now and found that if you remove all the AOL software from your pc (easier said than done) it runs faster, not as many glitches as you would be surprised what programs AOL attaches itself to, and now to go on the net I`m just using Firefox and I’m using a BT Home hub that AOL says will not work.

Conclusion
I must admit my service is ok now that my pc runs sharper and no online crashes blamed on their software, I pay them monthly without contract and considering giving them another go if they get my cost down to more like what Jim is paying but just as a bit of advice try downloading Firefox its free and much sharper on line you can still access your AOL account for email just save the page to favorites places/bookmarks and you will notice regardless of sites you visit you won’t get as much spam and again in my opinion much faster online experience.

call it coincidence but I`ve just received a a phone call from a representative of Talk Talk and he offered me a full package B/B, Phone line and free calls for 36 quid a month then got irate when I asked him how was this such a good deal if I'm already paying Talk Talk and AOL less combined ended up hanging up on him when he couldn't grasp that I was already paying less than he offered and Bt could even beat his offer

Here's another coincidence - I've just got off the phone from a Debt Recovery agency working on behalf of.......AOL!!
I swapped to Sky when I had the TV, did all the phone call bit, got the code to move from one to another, spoke to the pleasant Indian chap once I'd done it - no problem. Months later I receive a bill for £50 odd quid which I disputed and ever since the debters have been giving me grief. Thing is I can't contact AOL (the guy tonight has given me another number so I'll try that) because the first thing the answer moron says is to put the phone number in - I do and it tells me there's no record of it. Of course there isn't because I've closed the account.
They're now talking about a day in court and I must admit I'd love to take them on as this is the second time they've tried to take money out of my account that does not belong to them. My weakness is that I've not kept all the paperwork so I might be fighting a losing battle.

Don't worry to much theres always this thing they shoved down our throat at school that we were all bored with and it`s called the Magna Carta and believe it or not its been abused on a daily basis but when they dropped a red hot poker in your hand and it didn't burn you where guilty just like when they roped you to a stool and dunked you in the drink for to long you must be a witch.

you are innocent until proven guilty because of these medieval tortures and when they produce paperwork it will not have your signature excepting what they say this is why your local traffic warden has a cam to try and prove you where parked illegal when in fact you where on your way to the machine to pay your dues in a court of law he would need to prove otherwise, the law does protect us but use it don't sit back and take it.

getting back to the Maga Carta my son didn't tax his car as it was off the road (Knackerd) they said we fining him 80 quid for not being taxed and putting it on Sawn I said prove it was on the road and in use as the Magna Carta states you must prove guilt? if you have evidence of the vehicle on the road we will pay never heard another word

Been doing the same sort of thing with a company that insist i owe them money but will not produce the proof i do.
Most companies will not go to court for 50 quid.
If you know your in the right fight and ask them to take you to court that shuts them up

Just got to say I am with Orange Home Broadband and really cant fault it. I pay £24 a month and they pay BT for me out of that. I get a second telephone in the house so if I use that phone to call out, all calls are free exept to 0845 and mobiles. I can ( and have ) made calls to Ireland and Germany free of charge. Its also useful when the wife is on the bt line and I can use the orange phone. My highest bill so far was £24.74p. that was only cos I had to phone my mates mobile. (74p)
