bull huss

:question:hello all just a quick one my mate craig fished the steetly pier last saturday night from 7pm till 3pm and phoned me on sunday saying he caught a bull huss about 4 1/2 lb didnt believe him at first till he showed me pictures on his mobile. Are these caught often because id love to get one and mark it off my species list?

More like a dog fish with abit extra oz's added on, been 6 i have heard of caught since Oct already.

May be wrong as alsorts showing up but would put my money on a dogfish.

You may well be right Richie but 4.5lbs would be a big dogfish.

cheers lads im going to get him to send me the pics then workout how to show them but ive caught dogfish before and it certainly doesnt look like one ill do my best with the pics

i court 2 of these in the same week down horden about 3 month ago gave a good bend in the rod duno the difrence between a bull huss and a doggy but looked like a greater spotted dog fish to me, there not there in great numbers but there must be a few kicking about.

Its a lesser spotted dogfish mate. The main difference is in the nasal flaps.

there are shedloads of them up the west coast of scotland but not as many round here but you stil here of the odd few getting court every year
