Just watched tight lines. Alan Yates reckons this season is going to be a bumper.
SW of the country has fished well all year round for cod.

Anyone who is employed by a magazine is bound to say that. Then we keep buying their magazines and in turn buy new gear. Its the sole purpose of the publications get the readers buying.

Yes he did, he was right! The south have had some excellent cod fishing and the chances are they will have another good season.

Us? - well I'm not holding my breath.

He did say the south west were doing very well and other regions were struggling.
But he also said there should be some nice fish when our season kicks in which is about a month behind the south.
I like Mr Yates-he likes fishing and gets stuck in. So he talks about what he knows.
Bought my rod after he recommended it in sea angler.

Research has shown that only a quarter of 20 British fish stocks are being harvested sustainably, and that almost a third of the North Sea catch is discarded — thrown back because it is an unwanted species, under size or over the quotas set.

and probably more than that

strange that they never actually quote who does the research

Cod to 5lb were being caught at Dungeness last Friday after the SW blow...

BTW, Alan Yates reckons that it could be a good cod season for the South Coast regions - as it was last year....

How many Anglers were at dungeness for a couple of fish

I am there at the moment and there must have been over a hundred anglers at dungy and then the near by beaches were also full i.e. dengemarsh and galloways so a couple of cods between all those anglers isnt much to shout about

Funny that Les.....blame global warming for anything but the true cause of the decline in cod.....If it was global warming then could they explain why the warmer waters of the south coast are having a 'bumper supply of cod', yet up here where it's colder there is a decline?

I'm sure the bristol channel is significantly warmer also.....

BTW, we must arrange a session soon before me marks are swamped lol!
