Myself and JPster out today, wind forecast didnt look promising for this afternoon so was just going to be a short and sweet session.
Sea was like a duck pond early doors with not so much as a ripple on the water, fishing was fairly slow this morning, fish showing up on the finder, but nothing apart from small coalies taking.
Fished some of my favourite ground with nothing of note to shout about, so i flew down to Seaham where we managed to pick out a couple of codlings {biggest 4lb}.
The wind started to increase so we decided to head back towards Sunderland, loads of boats around us, but chatter on the VHF sort of echoed the same story, a few fish landed but no great numbers, i got a bit bored of getting nothing so i headed back down to where i started and we started to see a bit more activity.
I used my spinning rod as i thought the coalies would give me a little sport, one drift i dropped down and i actually thought i was fast, but after a few seconds i realised i had a decent fish on, rod was bent right over double and with the clutch set it started taking a bit line, eventually i started to get the better of the fish and when it came near the top it was a ling of around 7.5lbs. Cracking fish for such light tackle.
Plodded on a little longer as the wind and the seas were building all the time, with a few more fish landed we decided to call it a day and head back, and im glad we did as it was getting a bit bouncy for my small boat.

. Loads of empty moorings so there should be plenty catch reports today......
