Can we have a Northern Soul thread please

Please post links and whole albums etc. here. I know little about the genre apart from it's cool for cats. I like that "Called you 9 times" tune but can't remember who sang it. Also do quite a bit of spinning on my head but it's not the same listening to the theme tune from the Onedin Line (?)

Thanks in advance

Might just do that!

Is there a club in Easington Lane or summat that has a good soul night? I should get on that google train I suppose

The buzz I used to get walking into big echoing venues, the Bath assembly rooms in Tynemouth being one of them, hearing that music, then walking into the room full of spinning and whirling acrobatic lads and lasses, then giving the DJ your freshly imported 7" single to play hoping it would get approval from the masses, then each weekend travelling the North East going to all dayers and all nighters, (never got to Wigan casino) seeing the same old faces at these meets, soft drinks only served, and no bother , rose coloured specs..? mebee's..but hearing the old northern tunes cant fail to take me back to those...days and nights of 75/76 onover..

do I love you by Frank Wilson all time classic.
there was a bloke on one of the buy it sell it type programmes with one of only 2 copies left in the world on 7" he was offered thousands for it and knocked it back.
there is a link on u tube.
he still plays it at the soul nights

have to confess I've researched this genre of music as I'm fraid to say I was just about born at its inception into the modern ethos...

...got to say I'm not taken - it's a bit something and nothing...:red:

:D

I missed out personally and skipped straight into into "House" music after a frankly embarrasing flirtation with Heavy Metal. Anyone into dance music should doff their caps and pay homage to the lads and lasses that kept it real and continue to do so with the pure and particular vibe that is Northern Soul. I remember watching a mate of mine trying to adjust to this new dance thing that was acid house. He was spinning, leaping, shuffling and grooving all over the not, twitchy feet and loads of spinning, while we were slow stepping and hand dancing. His moves were fantastic but unfortunately he hadn't quite got managed to do it in time to the music :D
