Apparantly our north sea cod stocks are back on the increase thanks to a reduction in quotas of late, back to sustainable levels from the brink of extinction. I love my fishing and I know folk depend on it for their living , but if it came to it and it was necessary , I'd support a total ban on fishing for as long as it took to replenish stocks . The commercial guys would have a fit I know, but better a break from their jobs than losing them altogether.
There's no substitute for wild fishing (ask a trout angler who's experienced both wild and stocked ) and to lose our north sea cod population would be devastating.
