Caring for your kit

I was wondering what different peoples routines are for when they get back from fishing and sort their rod and reel to be put away until next time.
I've heard things like running your reel under warm water and wrapping it in an oily rag etc

Was hoping I might be able to pick up a few hints and tips.

I give my rod, a clean after every session ,a damp clothe,or a cloth with a bit wd40 on works good.

Reel/s i use again a damp clothe,wipe the handle etc then use a tea towel or rag to dry them off,or if they are gritty i take them to pieces and clean them up with oil etc.

After each session:

Wash the reels under the tap - place on dry towel

Wash the rods with warm soapy water

Wash the Waders in the same way

Give the dirty fishing clothes/towels to the missus

Funny you should mention this but I was doing some "after holiday" care on my fixed spools last night and have mashed up the head of one of the screws on the side plate - as a result I am yet to take the reel apart properly and give it some proper TLC (had it been a cheaper reel I may not have bothered) The reel is very "sticky" on the inside and doesn't reel in as smoothly as it should...lesson learnt

Fixed Spools need as much love and care as multis...take the side plates off either style of reel and wash away any grime then WD40 and light oil/grease any moving parts

Lots of lads do their maintenance "end of season" but I would say do it at least after every half a dozen sessions - after all the kit costs us a fortune

for the rod, a good rub down with warm soapy water and then dried with a cloth. for the reel, if it's just a normal session, I fill the sink with warm soapy water give it a good rinse and allow it to dry thouroughly, if the reel gets wet in the sea I do the same but then strip it down and give it a thorough clean and oil if necessary.

Ditto except I wouldn't wash my reels in soapy water as the detergent might wash the oil out of the reel. I just rinse my reels in cold water give them a good shake outside and then dry them off with one of my wifes tea towels

i am the same as the rest of the lads warm soapy to clean my rod and rinse my reel under cold water and half way thourgh the season give my reel a good oiling and at the end of the season.

I rinse my reels under the running hot water tap and leave to dry on the draining board. Once dried, a light spray of WD40 and into a cootn bag also sprayed with WD40 then into the reel bag. Every 3 months, strip off the end plates, coat all the inside surfaces with vaseline and grease the cogs. Soak the clutch washers in light oil to give a smoother take up.
The rods get a warm soapy water wash down then left to dry. Once dry, a wipedown with a cloth sprayed with WD40.

It goes in the box and doesnt see the light of day until the next trip! Same as the fly fishing equipment! It gets used that often!

My fishing ends when the last turn of line is on the reel and thats that!

I'd be more worried about my missus going for me nether regions after using her tea towel than the oil in the reel M8. The oil I can replace.....Me testicles I can't lol.
