Carp fishing

Hi, suggestions please, I used to carp fish down south about 8 years ago. I have dabbled a bit up here but can't seem to find any decent lakes. I've fished down Thirsk a few times and its excellent down there but its such a long drive. I've heard bad things about the lakes by the Angel of the North but I don't know if they're true. I'm looking for a friendly environment where the missus can fish too (extreme novice).
As I say I've fished Thirsk a few times but a round trip of approx 140miles is a long way to go. I don't mind travelling for a 100 mile round trip, (I live in Whitley Bay) or less preferably.
Any suggestions greatly received, and if possible either put a web link up, or give details of cost etc....
Thanks in advance
Mick

LPAALeazes Park fish it on a day ticket dawn till dusk £5 two rod limit. The club do have a web site were rules and regulations will be found and can also be found on Facebook. Parking is an issue to fish this venue giving its location and because its a public park its unlike most venues

have you not tried the quarry right on your doorstep at whitley ideal for your wife. davy.

Marden quarry is club water only now and is run by the big waters club. They have a few good carp venues including the big waters itself and dissington pond. The QE2 in ashington holds some good carp and can be fished on a dayticket but don't expect big bags like at woodlands.

There is a nice lake at Silksworth in sunderland. It's got loads of silvers and plenty of carp to go for. I think its £3 a day which you get from the ski slope office or on the bank. It can be a good runs water.
