Can u use. Cart in all comps. Club or opens

Alright the cod one cart is banned out of most opens and club comps right up and down the coast mate but not in seaham club. Should not ban any baits if you are willing to put yourself out to collect better bait then that should be to your advantage

Whats the best way to put this on the hook I tried it once and it turned to mush fairly quickly so never went back to it, ive read some people use finger bandages or tights or whatever? ? Iys a bait id like to use more aswell

Same as any other bait, it will fish or not on the day. I've allways understood it's banned north of the Tyne.

Definately banned north if the tyne as it's s byelaw to prevent eaters being mushed up for bait and hitting the crabbing boats due to reduced catches..totally agree with it

Just for your information this is the bye law set by the old Northumberland Sea Fisheries Committee some years ago it was made to stop undersized edible crab being used by commercial fishermen as pot bait for obvious reasons.

9. Prohibition on Use of Edible Crab (Cancer pagurus) for Bait

(1) No person shall use any edible crab (Cancer pagurus) for bait and Section 17(2) of the Sea Fisheries (Shellfish) Act 1967, which affords a defence to a person charged with an offence under Section 17(1) of that Act, shall not apply within the district.

(2) Nothing in this byelaw shall prohibit the use of cooked crab offal as bait.

Asd you can see it would stop you even buying a crab and using it and did not take into consideration recreational anglers. When the new Marine Act came out and the old NSFC was replaced with the Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority and they had to review all Northumberlands byelaws.

I have made my views as a angler known and that this be reviewed, that using edible crab as bait for recreational fishing be an exception to the byelaw. I will update you in the new year after the next meeting.

Most lads buy the crab from fish quays anyway as its not easy to find big females(which is what you need for Cart) on the beach.
