My mate has just told me cart is now banned south of the tyne, can anyone confirm this? Also, can cart be used in the opens south of the tyne? sunderland shields etc?
North Eastern InshoreFisheries & Conservation Authority (South of the Tyne to North Lincolnshire). Have a Byelaw that technically has always banned the use of edible crab as bait, however having talked to them today, they like Northumberland IFCA are reviewing legacy byelaws after talking with anglers and will be bringing in a new bye law next April to make it legal for anglers to use edible crab (Cart) I am assured by NEIFCA that they will not prosecute in the meantime.
XX. Prohibition On Use Of Crab (Cancer Pagurus) For Bait
Prohibits the use of edible crab as a bait source within the Authority’s jurisdiction but permits the use of cooked crab offal as bait.
I can only tell you about our own Open in Amble and our club . It is not allowed in club matches or our open until the law changes next April. You would have to ask the relevant club about its individual open rules.
