Casting Distance !!!

Just checked out my casting distances recently during actual fishing using baits. The way I did it was measure how much line is wound with a single turn of the handle with a full spool then make a max cast and measure the line wound with a single turn of the handle again. Take an average of the two then every time you wind in count the number of turns of the handle on the retrieve and multply by the average and you have the distance you are casting. It is only approximate but gives a guide. I thought I was casting over 100 metres but is more like 80. Mind you I am only using an old ABU 484 and 9000C, but wth bait.

When I cast over grass using a penn 515 with 18lb fishing republic pro storm line and a 60lb leader, I put a mark on the line with a black marker pen on all my casts so when I get home I strip the line and measure the marks on the line to see the distance I casted.

Mono has a large amount of stretch so measuring your line is inaccurate.

Only 1 way to get it properly measured. Get to a casting comp! Alternatively use a laser measure or a measuring wheel on a flat surface.
Counting the number of turns is never going to be accurate. Measure 20 or so of your steps will give a better idea of your stride length and hence distance. It's very easy to take small steps though, but your only kidding yourself!!!
