I have just been lent a hockey ball which is already rigged up for casting practice and just wondering for those of you who practice casts on fields is their any decent sized fields (saftey reasons, not casting ability reasons :D)to use in the Newcastle area

Don't know about newcastle mate but there's a biggin in sunderland you shouldn't have a problem on.

bright orange roller hockey ball, uber hard thick plastic, drill a small hole straight through, use some 80lb - 100lb with a swivel on it. you can double up the leader and loop it back through the holes if you want.
not sure on the weight but they are canny, use to have loads from my hockey days ;D

you can use dog toys as well, tenis ball on a rope leader.
pop a small hole in the bottom of the ball, squeeze in a 3 - 4oz lead, attach that to a shockleader of around 80 - 100lb, run that up along the rope leader, tape it to the rope leader then attach a swivel at the end.

some of the older dog toys are solid rubber balls on the end of a rope leader, you just need to attache a shockleader and swivel to them ;D

i used to park on side of verge at cow hill town moor you have good viz all around swalwell marina is agood place to practice the river is 200yds wide there
