Casting into wind

Tell you what I thought I was getting the hang of casting big cod baits but I got a reality check today casting into the wind. Even with a 7 oz lead I was lucky to get 60-70 yards. Is there a knack to it ?

It was like the lead was hitting a wall when the force of the cast leveled out with the force of the incoming gusts.

More practice needed clearly.

60 to 80 yds in this wind is not a bad Chuck fishing into a head wind you need to find a low distance Mark for best results mate deep water or gulleys

It's these conditions where a good casting technique really pays off. Yes it's nice on a calm day to blast a bait to the horizon but the ability to also get a bait out 80 yards in rotten weather can make the difference between catching fish or not.

I remember a couple of years ago fishing Horden in a north easter one afternoon, I was able to put 175 plus bait out to about past the surf to 80 odd yards and had three nice codling while all around me were struggling to hit 50 yards and hold bottom (and blanked).

Also use smaller baits.
Just because the sea is big doesn,t mean the fish can,t find a single worm.
Too many anglers miss more fish by using too big a bait.....

I was down horden hitting about the same distance pleased as punch north easterly wind. Gary blanchard came down next to me asked how it was going put his trace on put a 200 gram lead couple off blacks and sent it a unreal distance never seen nothing like it

Fished next to Blanchie a couple of times down there, the bloke can certainly put a bait out a long long way
