Casting lessons

I need to improve my casting before the oncoming cod season. At the moment it's too much effort for too little reward. I am OK with the long Yuki rod and a smooth overhead thump. But once I pick up my Tip Tornado for heavier work I am hopeless.

Could anyone offer me lessons starting in the next week or two (as soon as possible) - anywhere around Sunderland area midweek would be great but also don't mind travelling.

Happy to pay the going rate.

Sure the lads cab help u magpies,it's like riding a bike once u know how it's easygood of u to ask advice tho m8,to many ppl r to proud to ask,for me any one wanting to improve there distance/technique,it's the best way fwd.The best of luck with your casting

I would also be interested in some casting lessons if anyone could help.

I am more than competent with a multi, but I am struggling to reproduce that form with a FS. I would like to use FS only this winter coming (no laughing you dinosaurs )

Also happy to pay going rate, drop me a PM if you can help with fixed spool casting, my local beach is Horden but willing to travel reasonable distance.

Give Peter Thain a call - his contact details are on the Locker. I met up with him for a lesson 6 weeks or so ago and first he is a sound bloke and second he knows his stuff.

I was casting about 150 with a Compressor SS anyway but whether it was with that or the Yuki I couldn't get any further. Almost overnight he's put 15-20 yards on my cast.

Well worth it.

Top session last night with Ken (himself26) straight away I found out what I was doing wrong and a few tweaks and I was straight away casting further, easier. Plenty to work on for the future but I feel I am on the right lines now. Awesome to see him empty a spool with ease too. One day I will do that. Thanks again mate.

I'm please you found it useful m8. It's not easy changing your technique yet you adapted very well.......

I find if someone thinks they cant do something it generally follows that they cant unless they break the mould so to speak as its just a mind-set.

After 20mins you were snapping that horrible stuff on your 8000....

Also for a bloke who turned up with a F/S saying I cant use a multiplier don't like them.... It was very encouraging to see you couldn't put it down one you had started with it......lol

I've been on the end of one of Ken's reels after a long cast. Getting it all back again takes forever.
Reckon you'll need to beef up your bodyweight to match Ken though.

For what it's worth I like a multiplier as it feels great getting a good heave into a long cast but if you get a slack line things go wrong very quickly and you could lose a session trying to sort it all out again.

I love the Shimano FS I have and used with the Cannon release I get a longer cast too. No overruns to stop the action either.

Next time I'm off to Horden I'll send a PM and you can see what I mean about the Cannon release if you can get down there.

Gotta agree. He can chuck a 6oz lead a lonngggg way. Ken can actually fish Hendon Prom from Seaham north pier.
