Casting problems.

Hello guys I've just got a new daiwa supercast super match for christmas and bought myself a akios multi. The problem i'm having is that when i try and use the reel down low on the rod and hold the reel with my left hand andhold above the rod with my right, every time I go to cast is catches on my clothing what am I doing wrong here?

your sleeve might be too loose.

older titan jackets had there fastening strap in such a way as it caught your line during the cast.

take a bit of tape and tape your sleeve down if its a continuos problem.

some casters use a sock with the toes cut out.

try to use your hand a bit further round the rod, it will feel awkward at first.

yeah I meant my sleeve sorry didnt state that lol. When you say further down the rod do you mean furhter away from the reel so my arms almsot striaght? do people put the line under there right hand and let go as you cast or is it just cos of my clothing? It seems to me that it's pretty close to catching without my clothing do i need to twist my right arm differently?

I wouldn't be holding on to the line bud, I know this sounds pretty cocky, but can you not just roll your sleeve up ?:D

lol :D that does seem logical but sometimes i'm a russ and have about 5 layers on and a all in one suit so its hard to move lol let alone role sleeves up.

Give the lad genuine advice.....

I fish with the reel down the butt section, and have had the problem where line was becoming trapped in my cuff straps on my Mustad smock. I now use a Greys waterproof coat and havent had any problems now.

I would recommend rolling your sleeves up either, as if you do when casting with the reel down, you'll end up with some nice whiplash marks on ya arm with casting the line out... :o ;)

If your getting whiplash marks, your chopping your cast. The leader knot will cut your wrist.

To eliminate the straps getting caught when the line its going out try using an old sock with the toe end cut out so you can slide it over the jacket and straps or a tennis sweat band for your wrist.

well u could cut all the right hand sleeves off all ya fishing coats, lol. what i do is put elastic band round my cuffs that helps me cos after the initial cast u can adjust your right arm out of the way of the line.

Does it affect your cast ??
If not dont worry
I use the reel in the low position and the line catches my clothing not affecting my cast

Never chopped a cast in me life... a think???

All it is is the shockleader catching your arm when casting, guess it does this all the time as theirs no control on where the line goes off the reel until it is sent the right direction by the rings...

Mind you I've only ever had the whiplash problem when theres been a bit of a sidewind blowing from the left. ;) ;)

sometimes rolling up sleeves is impossible when extra layers are needed.

hence catching the line on your cuff is gonna happen sometimes when whacking it.

personally i like to us half a sock around wrist like dabcatcher says, and it really does help.;)

been fishing and casting for yrs and yrs never a prob as this thread ,socks i wear them on my feet keep everything as simple as possible only thing i can suggest is when casting keep arms a little bit away from your chest.

bit of light hearted banter with the lad, nothing wrong with that is there ? I gave him all the advice i could. He seemed to laugh and appreciate the banter, only you that didn't.
