anyone got any info on casting instructors from w/bay area .not that bad but would like to learn the full pedulum cast just for that little bit extra ?

in my opinion the pendulum is over rated plus its too dangerous. the good old off the ground cast should put you in range of most fish or even the overhead thump. ive done the pendulum and i can get just as far with any other cast i do.

Steve, like all forms of casting, the safety lies with the caster not the cast. In the right conditions a pendulum cast when executed properly should give you extra distance.

There are lads up and down the NE coast who should be able to help, so I'm sure one up your way will step in.

Good luck!

Ian.

like steve i'm looking to improve distance and could also do with a little help. am not talking full on tournament casting here you understand, but if there was someone out there willing to give me a few pointers on a 'fishing' pendulum..................... and obviously tha might be a pint or 2 in it......;)

would be a good idea to edit your user cp's to add a location then folks who can teach you know if they are near you

i have been learning the various styles this summer , i mostly fish hendon prom, a place with 2 walls 7M apart so need to have a lead high up on the swing so use a hybrid flat/high arc pendulum , the difference is about 40M + over a "Brighton" cast when i dont splatter lead over the back wall ( a lot of my leads have a banana shape to them now :p )

its a nice cast to have in the back pocket for sure but most of the time when theres folks about i have to use the brighton for safety

flat arc pendulum cast ,
YouTube - Back to the flat arc pendulum
weight pretty much swings in a "flat arc" without going high at the back swing so turn starts with the lead just after it passes the hip and tip of rod in plain

high arc ,
YouTube - High swing pendulum
lead goes up high and rod tip stays high through the turn and punch

hybrid is a mix of these to keep lead up in turn ( so i dont hit the wall as much :) ) could be described as a high flat arc or a low high arc

brighton cast you may know as a high inertia cast

YouTube - Terry Carroll Performs the Brighton Cast

off the ground with the lead pointing back to your feet 4-5 foot drop ,kind of like an over head thump with attitude :p
