Well we had our 2nd boat trip of the season on Catch 22. We arrived at the S/Land Marina 6;45am to we could sail at 7am. The skipper took us on onto some rough ground not far from port, as soon as we dropped down we were all into fish, we kept catching fish till about dinnertime where it went quiet for about an hour and a half. Then we started to catch them again on the afternoon. We came back into port as we have had a good day at 3pm shattered. Total fish on board was 80 Cod averageing from 2-3lb, thats without the amount of fish we through back to live another day. Best bait was Ragworm, Mussel, Peeler, We all would like to thank Bob for a great day. Thanks Again Chris

No Chris I lost one of them straight away. so I kept the other one for a later trip. Yes it was a great day out. It's a long time since I have seen that many fish on a boat.

2-3lb cod and you kept them:o
When we go out we never keep anything less than 4lb there's no point there's nowt on them.
If you's did keep 80 cod of that size you might as well take a net next time and take the lot. Shocking.

Sounds like a great day out Chris, well done. Two weeks today Lynn and I are coming south for a Whitby spectacular! Hope for a day like yours. :)

Must admit i agree here like. I love eating fresh fish but i don't see why you'd need to keep so many tiddlers? Nowt wrong with taking a few big uns home for your teas but 80 3lb cod is a bit of a joke.

I think thats a bit harsh, ok if youre a private Boat owner that can get out often & be a bit choosy about what you keep, but the guys on a Charter who may only get out 2 or 3 times a season for cost reasons, cant afford to be so choosy on what they keep. The trip probably cost them £50 at least & 8 Cod each on average isnt exactly raping the Seas imo.
They had probably also been out on an earlier trip & got nowt.

Absolutely agree Bob. We only get out about 6 to 8 times a year and would have done the same. If it's legal size it's no one else's business whether you keep them or not. These kind of negative replies may put people off posting. A trawler's catch in a week would be more than all the charter boats put together for months.

Glad you had a productive day Chris. :)

8 fish each.. Lots more returned.. I've seen people catch and keep more than that on the shore and no-one says anything about that.. What difference does it make being on a boat?

Nice job chris nice to see the fishing coming in at last.. Heard Hinge & Bracket had a really good day

So you have seen 80 cod between 2-3lb caught from the shore in one go I think not. Maybe in the full season by a lot more than 10 people.
We all know you catch more and bigger on a boat than you do from the shore.
Anyway I don't own a boat I pay just as much as the next man when I go out .
But would never think of taking a 2-3 pounder never mind 8 of them.
I understand taking one or maybe two to eat in some people's eyes is fine but I just think take the ones the shore lads have very little chance of catching.
So the boat lads/lasses have there fun and leave the others to grow bigger and the shore lads/lasses have a chance too.
Rant over.;)

Don't agree with you on this one. Two of us were out yesterday and both caught and kept nineteen cod each all around the three pound mark. If the fish are legal size then keep them in my opinion. With the cost of a days boat fishing you have to have something to show for your money. Look at the amount of undersize fish killed by trawlers every day - not to mention discards.

Its ok keep taking boat full of 3lb fish and you will have no boat costs in a few year as there will be no fish
