SWMBO works in a school, today she was asked by one of the other girls in the office "What is Tiggy". We were quite surprised that she did not know as it is something that we have always used and came to the conclusion that it must a very local colloquialism.

How many other people play or played "Tiggy" where you come from. Although we are in the north east, it would be good to hear of the same terms from different parts of the country too.

I would be interested to hear from Mr. Storey as he hails from up here, to see what he called it a very very long time ago and what it is called at his work place in Cannock.

Strange that - I've lived all over the country and "Tiggy" has been used in various parts...I don't think it's a regional word.

More likely it's been phased out of the playground by the PC/Liberal types as it's a form of non violent combat (??)

Hi Daren ........ we used to play TUGGY in Walker and of course who can forget TUGGY WITH THE GAT which involved a small air pistol lol ,god how no-one lost an eye ,mad when I look back.

Dya remember "Bulldog" as was called in tyneside
Where you start with everyone on one side against the unfortunate one who is "on" in the middle. The object is for all to run across to other side of the "Area" as the one in middle rugby tackles anyone he can. The one he catches joins him in the middle for the next run , and so on and so on.
ok at first but after half way you have more in the middle hunting to rugby tackle fewer and fewer running across gets out of hand after halfway, (more brusise than last nights boxing

Aye that's what we used to play Norman, I've never heard of "Tiggy".

We used to play murder ball in the gym, two equal teams, each team had a cone at their end of the gym, the objective was to knock the other teams cone over with the ball, there were no other rules - Ouch!

Who also remembers split the kipper? don't think it would be allowed these days lol.
