Catch report "Grace" 30th April

On Saturday morning I left Royal Quays and headed over to Mill Dam where Mr G and Davy were waiting. It was Davy's first trip and he was buzzing with excitement while the normally ebullient Mr G seemed somewhat out of sorts.
It turns out that one of Mr's G's siblings has moved back in with a lot of attitude and a small menagerie to include a scruffy cat which has taken to peeing nowhere else than on Mr G's new leather sofa.
On exiting the piers we headed North into a snotty sea and a stiff offshore wind but as we approached the ground off St Mary's the conditions had greatly improved.
The offshore wind was pushing the boat on a diagonal course at 1.5 knots so pirks and hokeyes were dismissed in favour of a flowing trace which proved to be a good choice with a decent Cod on the first drop.
The fish were in fine fettle and on the feed with Davy (pearl twintail) and me (orange shad) landing approximately 12 fish each within the first hour although Mr G didn't manage a single bite.
It is my reasonably held belief that positive thoughts and good karma are essential elements when fishing and there's no place for negativity. To that end we had sent Mr G to the other side of the boat where his negative vibes and domestic angst could not interfere with our zone of contentment and certitude.
At slack water we headed out to Arthur's wreck which lies East/West and as the offshore wind had dropped to a whisper we slowly drifted the full length of the wreck with fish coming up on a regular basis but not for Mr G who was still in a bad place.
In a fit of pique, Mr G suddenly blurted out "I know what's going on, I know how it works, you basxxxds are setting up the drift so you are on the wreck and I'm on sand you pair of twxxs".
We were joined on the wreck by "Jules" and within minutes the lads on Jules were also catching fish despite the ravings of Mr G who insisted upon sharing his conspiracy theory with them.
When the tide turned we headed back to the ground off St Mary's and thankfully Mr G started to pick up a few fish although by this time the fishbox was full and all fish were being returned.
We had a cracking day and kept 30 Cod to replenish our freezers, the fish ranged between 3lb and 7lb but they were all clean fresh run Cod so roll on our next trip.
Would you believe it, during the boat clean up Mr G sneaked into the cabin to call home and was heard to say "hello Trace, it's me, I top scored and kicked their arses again, make some room in the freezer, lots of fillets, see you soon"

I was on Jules yesterday and we wondered what was going on. We assumed you were doing some public service thing by taking out someone from a home for the bewildered.
We would have stayed longer on the wreck but we were concerned that he would start lobbing weights at us. He had a queer eye in his heed so thought it best that we got out of there. Have to agree there are plenty fish about so looking forward to our next run out.

Yes Dave, we'll soon be seeing you Yakkers out there. To date, I haven't been any further North than St Mary's but the charter lads are reporting that things are still a little slow up the coast and around our usual banker marks.
Was hoping to get out later this week but XC weather is forecasting very strong Wests and South Wests so we'll have to wait and see.
