Century Kompresser SS

A Reet lads this has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find it

Anyway my Kompresser SS keeps getting stuck together and have tried everything to get it off and always end up using a Geordie screw driver to get it released, so firstly what is the best way to release the 2 parts with out damaging the rod and secondly what can you do to prevent it happening in the first place

It is starting to happen every time I put the 2 sections together so any tips will be much appreciated

Get some fine wet and dry and give spigot a little rub then a thin smear of vasalene

i heard if you buy the carbon spray (apparently tackle shops sell it) this prevents it?

same thing happened to my mates but we just used brute force to get it apart.

Cheers lads I think it defo needs a bit of sanding because it is as if they don't want to go together, it's like it has swelled up a millimetre or 2

There was some stuff we used ot use on our pole joints in my freshwater match fishing days called "joint save" mate. That prevents the sticking. The paint on stuff in the little bottle with a brush in the cap was the best.

I'd be wary of sanding too much - I used to have a few Zzippy rods that had terrible joints, always swelling & shrinking, but put that down to them picking up condensation when kept in the garage. Found a place to start keeping rods in the house and hasn't been a problem since.

In the case of a proper tight joint, the best stuff i've found is the PTFE spray (I think Century used to recommend it on their website) you can get from Halfords & the like. Just spray a bit on the joint & start working it into the joint - twisting the rod so that any excess carbon is worn off equally. Periodically wipe off the excess, apply a bit more spray & repeat as necessary. Finally give one last spray and let dry and your rod should be good to go. If it starts getting a bit sticky after a while, just give another spray with the PTFE.

The carbon sprays are, I think, for building up a slack joint - not what you want to put on if the joint is already too tight.

Cheers lads I will try the ptfe spray I don't fancy sanding it my self but bwcause I have damaged the metal ring I am thinking of sending it to century to be repaired

Any ideas how much they will charge or would it be a better idea to get a rod builder to repair it

The spray is for loose spigots you need the opposite... I would have a chat with century see what they would recommend

I had the same problem with a rod I used to have and was told by century to use an ordinary graphite/lead pencil and use the side of the lead to rub up and down on the male half of the joint, then put it in and out a few times and this makes it fit a lot better,it certainly worked for me.

Have had it happen to me once,just give it a thin smearing of vaseline every once in a while now. Aint had any problems since.

Just a thought you would think a fishing rod that you paid a lot of money for would have lasted a lot longer before it started jamming.

rod needs to be stored somewhere dry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you take it to a tackle shop they work the spigot with fine wet and dry

It's all sorted now, took it to reel sport in SS and the owner sorted for me, it is because the carbon has dried from lack of use is the reason it sticks, so a bit of Vaseline on the male and female squared away no sanding needed
