anyone with any info on how these rods are graded , like which is the lower end to the top of the range . i mainly mean the crest,kompressor , sport, ,super sport ,,grand prix etc etc , also whats with this metal ring ?? has it a purpose or just a tackle tarts thing ??

looking for one that can cast 6 to 7 oz without folding and handle rough ground .

The kompressor was grand prix stiffest the sort in the midde and the match was the softest, i've got the grand prix and find its a great all round rod

Century don't do lower end rods.they do make different rods for different types of fishing ie clean to mixed to rough but non are lower end.i would say though if your going to buy one don't just follow the crowd and try and buy the biggest and stiffest you can find or you and your back might regret it later lol.

im using a conoflex anubis plus at the moment , chucking out 7oz leads plus bait , so in your opinion if you have an understanding of centurys rods , which of the range would be slightly and i mean slightly softer than the anubis + ... ??
 
i like the tip tornado sport, its a good allrounder with great bite detection but still throws a 7oz and bait when needed.

Also the kompressor sport is a good allrounder again good bite detection and throws 7-8oz and big baits and sits well in tide and strong winds.

The kompressor ss i more of just a winter rod mixed to rough ground lovely tip will cast heavy leads and big baits and will pull the plug plus its not too stiff so you can cast it comfortably unlike some of the stiffer century rods.

Now the crest seem's to have a stiff tip and a soft butt but will still cast big baits and leads ect... but will handle the rough ground.

century used to make there rods with whippings either side of the spigot but now they put shrink tube either side of the spigot and the metal ring (its only the newish rods with the metal ring)
 
You'd probably be looking at the Kompressor S or SS - the S has a softer butt than the SS but tips are the same. I guess it depends what sort of action you prefer & what sort of ground you're fishing over. There's also the CM Crest, which has a much stiffer tip but softer butt - kind of opposite action to the Komp SS but capable of fishing the same kind of ground. All will throw 7oz quite happily.

the conoflex when casting on uneven rocks can at times feel like its pulling me over , so im wanting a rod a tad more forgiving for casting , the kompressor ss sounds about what im after .. :D

Hi yes Komp ss or komp s will I think suit you both at 13ft 10 so your not losing much against your 14ft Anubis
 
I have a freshly rebuilt kompressor grand prix in the for sale section. Never used since it was built. That should fit your needs :)

I've never used the Anubis so I can't comment on how the Century rods compare....but I agree with the lads that have already posted about the Kompressor SS. I think that is the rod that is nearest to what you're after.

I think the Kompressor Grand Prix will be a bit too close to what you already have and the Kompressor S not quite pokey enough.

I have a Kompressor SS and the S and I like them very much, I find the SS has plenty of "poke" without being over the top and is easy to cast. It is stable in the wind too when I put in a rest.

A lot of lads like the Carbon Metal Express and the Crest, I have the mk1 versions of these rods but I still like the Kompressors the best and seldom use the Carbon Metals if I'm honest. Also the Carbon Metals aren't as stable in the wind but they are very easy and forgiving to cast probably a bit more so than the Kompressors.

These are only my opions though and I'm sure that people will disagree, the thing is rod choice is a very personal thing without any rights or wrongs.

I use the kompressor wr300 mate and love it, casts 4-8. I usualy use a 5 oz lead and though it's classed as a stiff rod i find it's ok to wind up. Deffo won't fold and it has good bite detection so I use it all year round, summer for flatties and winter for coddy no problem. It's 13'3" and I fish reel up and it suits me fine but I suppose that's a personal thing. As far as I know the earlier model (pre 2009ish) used the same blank and didn't have the metal band on the butt section, bit of aesthetics maybe but functionally it could protect the female spigot joint I suppose if yer like hoying the thing around.
And a brucie bonus, there's a metal band on the other end of the butt section also, beneath the rubber bung:D
