Im considering doing a charter in the summer for me and a few pals. A Couple of us are fairly new to fishing and i was wondering what was supplied in the price. Does everyone have to have their own rods or do skippers supply that kind of thing? What sort of price would we be looking at for a days fishing? We are in Sunderland , any suggestions for who to use and finally what kind of numbers will we need?

Most boats have gear for a nominal £5 hire charge. Prices range depending on venues, speed of boat etc. Least I have paid for a day is £25 most £55. For a 10hr trip I think chartering is a bargain. My girlfriend and I started out 18 months ago as complete amateurs(Lynn would argue I still am!!). We have been out on about a dozen different boats since then. All Sippers/crewmen have been really helpful, giving great advice. I have loved the experience and learned a huge amount in a very short space of time. We have our favourites, but it's best to find out which boat/skipper suits you best. I don't like to read posts rubbishing a boat. It's all subjective, for every 1 fisherman who had a bad experience on a boat, you will find 10 others who loved it. We only have ever been disappointed once, but I didn't post about it. That would be unfair, as it's a man's livelihood after all.
Ask the Skipper before you go what bait, lures work best in his area. For instance daylites tipped with cooked prawns work in one area, in another area you might get laughed off the boat if you used them!
We have three charters booked next month : Sapphire with Peter at Sunderland, North Star with Jim at Hartlepool and Mistress with Rich at Whitby. All new boats for us. We have spoken to all three Skippers and while they are probably fed up with all our questions, they have been so patient and helpful. We are so looking forward to our week's fishing.
As to numbers, other than our Hartlepool charter (where we are bringing 3 friends), there is always just Lynn and I and that has never been a problem. You don't always need to fill the boat.
Get out and enjoy yourself. I bet you love it and will go again and again.

I supply rods, reels £5 a day operate from hartlepool as for numbers some boats want a certain amount of anglers and others don't the best thing to do is ring some skippers and they will provide you with all the info you need regarding prices and availability of tackle etc

regarding rods absolute rubbish:exclam: most vessels as already said hire or lend rods and reels.
the price is anything but standard,ranging from £25(i only know 1 legitimate charter boat that charges this
then from £30 to £50 depending where you fish and the type of boat
