Charts for Garmin plotters

Can the charts that work in Garmin units be rewritten or does a new one have to be purchased.

New boat is coming on Tuesday and it has a Garmin 182 but the chart is for a section of the Thames Estuary(not much good up here).

you can buy Garmin Atlantic Bluechart software for the PC, which has every chart in europe in it and then plug the garmin unit into your PC and download whichever one you want, failing that, you can just but a new cartridge, with the chart of your choice
