I quite enjoy a bit of trout fishing on the fly as well - makes a change from getting salt-lashed & sandblasted during the winter.
However, I'd rather get a pollock, wrasse, bass or even a humble mackerel on the fly - pound for pound there's no contest when it comes to a good scrap. I didn't get to do any salt-fly fishing last summer so am determined to get a bit more in this year. All I can say is if you enjoy your fluff-chucking, give it a go, especially if you're up the coast around Beadnell or Eyemouth, but there are plenty of marks more local that are worth a chuck too.
Of course, the next step is to head up to somewhere like the Derwent & chuck out 6oz and 3 lobworms full pendulum style on my beachcaster...................
