I know the journalists do get out there and try to get as much info and as up to date as possible for us all to keep in the know. They also use this site for this amongst other ways and a have good few friends on here so I smell fiesty thread coming. Suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion though mate

completely off topic, but Mog if you change the angle brackets around "Put back what you don't need." in your siggy to square brackets (ie change from html to bbcode) then it'll work :)

Newspapers and magazines are always going to be lagging behind purely because of the nature or they way they're produced. I stopped buying newspapers years ago because the news online is updated constantly and of course the reason most of us come here is because people are posting their catch-reports within hours of actually being out there chucking the lead around.

The column can be patchy at times but i suppose it depends on where your interest lies.
At times i get hacked off at all the comp results and dates but to someone who fishes them they are of interest.
Never going to keep everyone happy plus covering every area of beach, pier, rocks etc is impossible.
Then you have to sort out the truth from the fiction when it comes to catch reports.
I just look on it as a bonus as i buy the paper anyway

Sounds like they've printed the wrong info (probably an old article been picked up by mistake and the Editor hasn't noticed), isn't there a W/Bay competition coming up this weekend?

Why would you buy a newspaper just for the fishing report when you can get more up to date reports (and the occassional picture) on here

not everyone who goes fishing has the internet
thats like saying why buy a car when you can get the bus

Sorry about the problem with the Chronicle angling report gentlemen. The computer printed last weeks copy by mistake, it should have been deleted but wasn't. And for ANNDY'S information I telephone EVERY tackle shop along the coast between Amble and Whitby every tuesday morning to get information, I also fish myself when I get the time (as I have done for sixty nine years) and talk to people who know what they are talking about. I also print club competition results, and as one of you said you can see from that sometimes which areas are fishing. Yes, there are two opens this weekend, which would have been in the article if the correct copy had been printed. The first is the Whitley Bay A. S. evening comp. on Saturday the other is the South Shields S.A.C. open on Sunday.
Once again sorry. Tight Lines.

No problem Sam. I think you are doing a great job and listen to you on radio when i can as well as check out the paper. I also know for a fact that Mr Charlton gets everywhere searching out results and reports as i have seen him at most comps i've been at including friendlies. Keep up the good work lads.
Most tackle shops advertise or at least talk about the opens so if you miss it in the paper you should see it in a shop.

You've completely misunderstood my point. The original complaint was from you, a member of NESA who has at time of writing submitted 85 posts. Surely you have access to the internet! It was this I was answering to.

For you to then go on and still slag off the person who wrote the Chronicle article after he has explained it was down to a computer mistake is I think a bit beyond the pail. I've seen first hand how much time and effort these guys put in to their reports but you've go to remember that by the time the paper is printed, a lot of the reports are already a week old.

You can't expect up to the minute information from a weekly article.

I can't and don't dictate to the Chronicle as to how much of my copy they decide to print, they delete whatever they want to. All I can do is send the copy into them, they then print what they want of it. Alan Charlton will tell you the same, him and I get very frustrated when we want something important in our columns to let anglers know about and someone in the office deletes it.
I have been writing the sea angling column for the Evening Chronicle for over twenty years and this is the first time that this has happened, by the way I have been part of the B.B.C. Radio Newcastle angling programme for thirty nine years so I think I have a little experience of angling journalism. And to back that up I have fished all over the world from the Arctic Circle to Africa, from Russia to America both west and east coasts. The only place I haven't fished is the far east, but there's still time yet. Where have you fished anndy?.
