Coalies Galore (SSP)

I took another trip down to Shields yesterday.

Got there about 1.45pm ish to find the car park with loads of spaces and the air thick with mist.

Walked up and chose a spot nearer the end this time. set up and got a nice mackerel on the first cast!:D

The rain held off for about an hour or so and then started to spit, I'd had four or five mackerel by the time it started to rain for real. I got my waterproofs on then continued to fish.

I noticed that the little old fella who had been fishing the small wall, had moved across to my side, so, as it had gone a bit quiet, I moved over to give the small wall a shot. There was a bit of shelter from the rain over there as well!

Fourth or fifth cast and I was pulling them in again, first a mackerel and then coalies in ones and two's.

I finished with 11 mackerel, 7 coalies and 1 sand eel (all the coalies and a small mackerel went back in) most of my fish coming from the small wall.

There was a lad fishing next to me, who had tried a few different spots during the afternoon, who couldn't wait to give the small wall a go when I packed up:D

He hooked a mackerel after a couple of chucks but lost it and then another couple of chucks later, had a string of three before I left;)

The lads float fishing seemed to do okay as well. One sitting on the wall where I started, took a lovely pollock, as well as the odd mackerel and then another bloke who came across and was fishing next to me on the small wall was catching small coalies and a beautiful three bearded rockling, which was more or less black on the top and tail, merging to purple on its flanks and a pinky belly.

No photo's this time, as it was a bit wet to be digging the camera out of my bag:rolleyes:

Another cracking afternoon in spite of the rain.:) It actually reminded me of what it was like 35 years ago, when I used to get the bus into the Town from Ryton, then the train to Shields and then walk along to the end of the pier, lugging my huge homemade wooden tackle box. I never caught anything at all back then but enjoyed the experience just the same;)

Thanks lads, I think I'm getting a bit sucked into this malarkey again after 35 years adrift!

I'm fancying having a go with a float next time, any advice on how to go about it?

cheers

Cracking report. I had a good break of about 30 yrs before I started fishing again. Born and bred in Hartlepool but gave up fishing at about 17. Live Consett now and am 52 yrs old. Got back to fishing about 6 yrs ago.
Mick.

Thanks for the Report Fella. Sounds like a very decent session for you. Shame about the Weather but it probably kept the hoardes away.:D
