Cod have strange tastes

What is the strangest thing you have found in the contents of a cods stomache. I caught a 7lber one night and thought it had a big crackerly crab in its guts, so gutted it. No crab, but a full size plastic cup out of a vending machine. I remember Tony Tayler getting a small green pixi outa one of his.

It was a drug haddock.

me cousin got 1 about 4.5lb maybe 10 year ago it had a big ball of blue chewed up plastic init. it looked like a dog had mulleyed part of a mayonaise bucket or something., and the cod had scoffed it

You used to regularly catch them from the blast with bits of coal in their gut. Best thing I seen was a fish about 7lb with a chewed up chinky tin in its gut.

I think its just the movement of the things they eat that confuse them, not necessarily them hoovering everything as they go along.

I once read a study of 6 codling that were in an aquarium. The group studying them buried a squid 6 inches under some shingle in an adjacent tank, let the fish in, and within minutes, they'd sussed where it was and dug it out

Over the years I have found hard backed crabs, starfish, pieces of a crisp packet but the most unusual things were what I thought were some sort of fat worms. They were about 4 inches long and very pale in colour but the skins were realy crinkly. They smelt of potato. I think I had cod and chips.

i got one from blyth pier years ago, it had a square battery with the 2 clips on the top, same as the ones you put in a smoke alarm! lol

Just shows you they will take most baits if they are eating things like batteries

I WAS FISHING THE BEACON;S A FEW YEARS BACK,, I FOUND A SMALL RED AND BLUE HOUSE IN IT;S GUTTS, I STILL HAVE IT SOMEWERE FOR GOOD LUCK NEVER HAD ANY LIKE

So the next time I went out fishing I tried baiting up with some pickled silverskins - blanked... but worth a try...
