COLD HANDS

hi all, i suffer from very painfully cold hands when im out fishing,gets to a point where i just pack up coz i cant stand it any longer even though the rest of me is nice and warm, ive got a pair of them neoprene gloves the ones with the fold back fingers and i think there crap, so before i spend my dosh on anything else i`d like to know what everyone else uses/reccomends.

Hello mate, welcome to the board. A few of tips for you.

If you can, avoid dunking your fingers in sea water. Always take 2 bait towels, one to wipe most of the crap off your hands (this will become damp over time) and a second to warm your hands up a bit by rubbing them clean a bit more. Next, keep your hands gripped in your pockets, holding your thumbs. Last thing for me is a flask of bovril

I use the Neoprene gloves and find them ok but maybe I dont suffer as much as you mate,as for the sea water I often stick my hands in to wash them and to warm them up,the water is surprisingly warm IMO just make sure you dry them straight away.

I used to fish with a bloke who used to swear by washing his hands in sea water to warm them up as well Alan - never worked for me though, always thought he was a bit daft lol

As far as the towels go, I ALWAYS take two sometimes three. As you say Davy get most of the crap off with one and dry hands with the other. You can get some decent mits for while you are waiting for a bite, even a good pair of woollen ones will work if it is not raining.

Ive a mate that plays guitar in his early days he used to busk and would swear by rubbing a 2p in his hands for a few mins to warm them up dunno if it works but worth a try but agree with the rest keep your hands dry and wear warm gloves between bites

Good advice all round. I go along with alan.f though. Quick wash in the sea, dry them straight away then straight in the pockets. It sounds daft sticking them in cold water but as alan said, you\'ll find its not as cold as you think. Works for me. If theres a freezing wind the gloves go on aswell.

If you keep the rest of your body hot you will find your hands definitely stay warm!
Thermal underwear, neoprene chesties,decent socks,a good coat and hat should see you keep warm including your hands.
I tend to hold my rod and only wear gloves to carry my rod stand even when its below freezing.

A good trick is an old pair of socks rolled up your wrist which you can roll down to cover your hands.
You can also warm your hands in sea water but best advice is to double pat ie bait up a spare trace and clip this on, it seems to shorten the time your hands get cold. Otherwise your winding in, maybe tying on a new rig and then rebaiting. during this time your hands will spend more time exposed to the cold.

I find neoprene gloves worse than useless. They always seem to fall apart 2nd time I wear them and don\'t keep my hands warm 1st time. I usually find that they get very cold initially but once I\'ve got the first bait out and stick them in my pockets and they warm up I\'m usually ok. Always at least 2 towels. Try to make sure hands dry as poss before sticking back in any gloves. Chemical hand warmers in pockets. I\'ve been searching for gloves since I started fishing,only 3 years, but still haven\'t found any that really help. It\'s all part of the fun!

I\'ve said it before and will say again...Nowt like sticking y\' hands on y\' nuts to warm y\' mitts up.Trouble is with the neoprenes is that y\' hands have to be warm before they go in.

i just use them £1 finger less gloves from the market means you can bait up and still keep warm.

i hate trying to bait up with anything on my hands ,
i use dachstein mitts , they warm your hands up in about 2 mins after they felt like theyre goin to drop off. ne good if ye hold ye rod though. but you can just put them in your pockets and they act as a big thermal lining. u dont even have to mess around trying to put them on.
