Collecting Mussel

Was thinking about going to collect some mussel at the weekend for the first time just to keep stocked up for the winter. I don't want to pry on anybody's secret spots or anything just wouldn't mind some guidance lol

Thanks for any posts :)

There is plenty places I could tell you in Sunderland but in the Tyne the only place I can think of is the middens.
Just pick the biggest muscle you can find and if you pick to many you will sicken yourself when it comes to peeling them.
I would keep them in some fresh sea water for a day or so to purge them selves.
So the muscle will be cleaner. When peeled I put mine onto newspaper to dry them out a little before freezing them.

Cheers codfather

Try sand point in roker big tide on sat morning 9am.
Walk down the ramp on the left hand side as you get near the water walk to the right and pick muscle from there .
Nice size muscle.
