Collecting Peeler

Now before I start - this is NOT a thread for people to get hot under the collar about..."them's my traps" - "magna carta" blah blah blah...

This is an innocent question as I am keen to try my hand and get some fresh bait for "free" this year - this will also include digging

What I'd like to know is how do you collect crabs "normally"? IE where would you look etc?

Again please be assured I'll not touch "your" tyres or dig in places where I'm not allowed...I'm not even after specific locations - I just want some general advice about foraging the rocks and mud for crabs and other baity type creatures

Any help/advice greatly appreciated

i normaly go down whitburn rocks for the peeler crab or if we go for a day out we normaly go up the coast and if the water is out and i see rocks i stop the car get my bucket and head straight for the rock. it hard work like.

its simple mate, just go down to the rocks and turn over the rocks or lift the weed, but mind please put the rocks back the way they were ,try the haven or browns well at the end of may,you keep at it you will get enough for a few good sessions hope this help a little

if you go down in the dark the crab normally just sit in the rock pools so no need to lift the rocks. make sure you know the area before you start mooching about the rocks in the dark as you will know there could be cut off points when the tide comes in.

quite a lot of tyres washed up on fish quay beach get yourself down and claim some then set them in i got 40 tonight that way

...what..like the sea made a conscious decision to wash them up? Maritime law mate...thy've been washed up, first to claim them wins them.

Funny I heard of a bloke that put some tyres in at shields in 1976 and swore they were still his last year. Might have been his washed out eh!

dont quote me wrong but ive been fishing bait digging and collecting bait for 20yrs nd im only 28yrs so excuse the pun if youve gettin 40 crab the nite!!!!!!!!!!!!!let me know how you achieved it especially in april

sorry thought you meant 40 crab!!! read it correct did you rob the nissan factory?seems one hell ov a lot ov tyres to just STUMBLE ACROSS??????????

I tried to edit it, saying i was a bit too hasty but messed it up. I was down ther at high tide today and seen the tyres along the tideline and thought it wierd unless the dredger has disturbed something upriver and they have slipped. Or worse still the anti's have dug them up.

40 tyres - i recovered 40 tyres not 40 crab - i havent dug the tyres in yet
