Yip I reckon I was wrong, I've looked at some images of both Herring and Smelt and it does appear to more closely resemble a Smelt! obviously I'm no Pike fisherman!!!!

Hi Scotty my son caught one a couple of weeks ago at Jarrow after lots of research we found out it was a Sand Smelt the one my son caught had a red Tail fin Well done the teeth are quite scary looking

Yes a smelt. Seen one caught at Jarrow couple of years back. Stunk of cucumber!

looks like one of thos shad's my mate caught a twaites shad on tynemouht pier and looked a similar fish to that
