Couple of hours out tonight?

Had a couple of hours out after work tonight checking out a new mark over high tide for Bassing on lures in the summer. The water clarity really good with probably about 6 foot visibility.

I'd not fished here before so tried a couple of shallow diving lures that I've been stockpiling over the winter. Nothing doing so thought I would try an ayu xlayer soft plastic (jelly worm) slowly along the bottom as this would be most likely to succeed when the water is still cold.

After about half an hour managed a bite which turned out to be a small coalie of about 12 inches. This is the first fish I've had on soft plastics, so although not very exiting I was well pleased. I only tried a couple of times with them last year and hadn't caught anything so my confidence was low, but now I can see myself persisting with them a bit more.

I've got a load more marks in mind to test before the Bass turn up so it's nice to know there may actually be something there to catch if you try the right methods.

Nice one, it's always good to try new things and when they work it gives you a buzz. I think it's a great way to fish and every time you bump a rock you wonder if it was a fish or not until one finally does hit you and then you know lol. I find it the same as float fishing nice and relaxing but also very exciting at times. Hoping to give it a try soon myself as long as my legs are up for it.

Totally true mate. Was fishing the plastic with a jig head, bouncing it along off the rocks. Every now and then it snags a little and with braid you keep thing 'Was that a nibble?' but then when you actually hook one you know straight away.

Its a good way to spend a few hours and it will pay dividends in June when the Bass turn up.

welldone, gettin out meself today(after a bit kip) :) just recived an order of softies that a wanna get out and try, not expectin much at mo, mainly itchin to get the lures out and checkin the action on them;) few degrees to go yet

SifootSteve and I found some great looking marks to try up at Eyemouth area with the Jelly's but there wouldn't be half a chance of me getting to them now. There may be one or two marks I can still try around this area when the weather gets a bit better so looking forward to that this year. Definately going to try some plugging for the Bass too as I've never caught one like that.
