don\'t know what was biting hardest, brownies or midges, the bastards were out in scottish proportions today, tried me best to slash them to bits with a 9foot hardy favourite, but they\'ve been having jedi training and used the force to thwart my attempts to slay them. tempted to combine grouse conservation with fly fishing and set the heather on fire to try smoke em out, stuck to chain smoking instead. Have now fully perfected roll casting, I can roll a fag whilst flailing about with a fly rod and wet string

so the score\'s on the doors

cow green brownies - 21 (biggest a about 9\", but great fun, nigh on a fish a cast)

river wear - 4 (tiddlers but a perfect day to be plodging)

midges, feckin millions, would of kept at it at cow green but only managed an hour or so at the waters edge before I ran away

trying to arrange a napalm fly by just before my next trip

Try shitting in your hat, it confines their bite radius to the facial region. Airborn botox, free as the wind. Otherwise try midge repellent and eat garlic, the magazines assure me that this will definetley stop the midge man biter. Failing that spend as much money as you can afford on the best midge eating machine in the world because that will obviously stop you from getting bitten ever.

Harry Potter used one in Scotland and there was 769 tonnes of raw midge collected every day. they taste like peanuts when lightly roasted, but then again what insect doesn\'t. Anyone ever ate a ladybird? (ladyBIRD not boy)

Well Done Mark!
Was it not blowing a gale up there....LOL
What were you getting them on?
Where were you fishing in the river?

I might give Cow Green ago in a couple of weeks,

everything at cow green was on the dry, claret or black hoppers, or small black gnat type things, fished the bays on the south at the far end wherre the river runs in, a little breeze but not much and mainly from behind me so no big problem

dried with a buzzer on under the dry but they all ignored that and went for the dry

fished the river halfway between stanhope and eastgate

pheasant tail nypmphs, hares ears, and little black floaty things!

Sounds great Mark!
Thats the bank I like at cow green - From the lodge \'hut\' to the
tee\'s inlet. The place is packed with fish and they are greedy little buggers!

I\'ve just obtained the forms for membership on that stretch of the Wear, I enjoyed the seatrout and Salmon that much last year I thought I would splash out the 20 quid or so it is to join LOL

Keep the reports coming!

Cheers

don\'t think you can get better value anywhere than that bit of the wear, worth just to be able to go and stand in the river in peace and quiet

I\'ve alway found the best bit at cow green is on the south side from where the river runs in, bit of hike to get there, but I usually fish my way to it, still yet to meet anyone else up there.

about 2-300 yards along from where the river runs in is where I\'ve seen the biggest fish

I know the place mark, its tremendous! me and my mate have had a couple of decent fish in the area... well about 1lb!

Cheers
