Creswell?

Well for the people that know me they know i have little time for rough ground, never been a fan off it but every year i have 1 or 2 trips up Creswell after the pan size codling for tea.

Year after year after year i ask myself why do i bother spening ages steaming up there to catch very little but then the next weekend it once again reports loads of catches....am i missing something is it a over rated mark or a mark that only fishes once every so often???

Who knows but i have fished all the drop off's, holes and obstructions on my charts and the gps charts, all for only a few coding each time.

Come on whats the secret or should i just stick with the wrecks :)

Stick with the wrecks and keep away from Cresswell :p, there were too many boats there on saturday , I counted at least 3 at one stage (including mine of course), couldn't get lined up on my drift without getting within 400yards of someone else :D
There are loads of fish at Creswell Rich , depends how many you want to catch as to whether it's worth your while coming up from the tyne , seems there are just as many at the yellow can , but I wouldn't motor past Cresswell to get the fish from Whitley. I had a dozen or more on Saturday between 2-3lb and a couple of 5 lbers , but I didn't spend my whole day there , I fished a couple of wrecks and another bit of hard ground further north which was good last year without any success either side of catching at Cresswell.
I fish a lot closer to the skeres than the charter boats and most other boats and catch my fair share , the charters always report good catches from further out as well though.
I don't think there is any secret to catching them , just drop a set of baited daylights or hokkais to the bottom and hold it still as long as you can ... bites galore , there are all kinds of fish on the skeres , I caught two lovely granny fish as well on Saturday .
If you decide to come up let me know ............ I'll go down fish your wrecks :D

No mate , I was fishing the wreck just south of the northern hill when that boat came alongside warlord , I wondered what they were up to fraternising with a charter boat :D, I was near warlord a few times on saturday though down at Cresswell (not near enough to have a collision  :D)

I've never fished the wrecks off Creswell, but I have fished the 40-50ft marks, and the killer bait was always peeler crab, or big softies for me. Same off Newton-by-the sea. Had been off Dunstanburgh a few mile hit plenty fish in the 2-3lb bracket, came inshore to gut our fish, so threw a crab baited rod out. In the end we couldn't get them gutted for our rods nearly going over the gunnel's with fish, many in the 5-8lb bracket. we could hardly keep the old 15ft Reiver on the plain with a 40hp yamaha.
so unless things have change dramatically since then, give the crab a go.

:D:Dfraternising:exclam:love the word:exclam:aye ray he was just giving us some good advice:D

Guess i have hit 3 bad days when up that way then taken (from my catch records) 7 codling, 9 codling and 13 codling 2-4lb

Yellow can not on form yet this year but the net 200 yards sea side of the can does not help, it is not far short of a mile long.

I've always favoured the ground off Cresswell, Lynemouth and Newbiggin but on Saturday I used 50lts of diesel to get to there and back again (wind and tide against me). Although we caught plenty of smallish cod we decided to stop just north of the yellow Can for the last half hour and we caught at least another 10 decent fish. On balance I feel we could have done a lot better by just staying close to home and subsequently burned a lot less diesel.
