I had a phone call this evening (Thursday) from one of the men who is working on the repairs to the South pier at Cullercoats. He told me that there is a barrier at the top of the bank leading down to the beach on the south side of the bay. The other day they watched someone launch a small boat and leave the trailer on the beach. When they left work at 5-30 the trailer was still there, they locked the barrier and when they came to work the following morning part of the barrier had been pulled out of the ground, concrete base and all.
He has asked me to let anyone thinking of launching there know that the barrier is being replaced and this time the amount of concrete that is being put in will not be able to be pulled out of the ground. The work is hoped to be finished by the end of June, but he wasn't sure as to the councils plans about the possibilty of leaving the barrier on for good. Until the work finishes the barrier will be locked every evening at 5-30.
