i have cought fish from the beach between the piers when the sea is washing over the pier at high tide. the piers fish but the best place is the rock edge 10mt cast .the rocks are flat there is a little climb down if i can manage it (61 yr) you will

The piers are both dangerous with any kind of sea on (especially the North which can get swamped hours before high water). Fish the South on a small tide with a bit of sea on, I would only fish the North if it was flat. As d-a says the harbour is better known as a low water shot

As johnf says, fish the south one but be very, very aware of the conditions. I've fished off there off and on since the 80's both day and night, can be pretty good at times. Don't need a long cast - just aim into the channel. Can be pretty snaggy in places so I tend to use things like old spark plugs instead of chucking lead away.

Edit - looking at the sea tonite it's fairly flat, small tide tomorrow evening, fresh water coming down the rivers should drive the fish away from river mouths... Cullercoats might be worth a shot tomorrow evening...
