was wondering would a charter skipper refuse to take out a person who had recently suffered a heart attack [ 6 months ago ]

go and see your doctor explain to him what have in mind and see what he's says, i had a heart 12 years ago and and within 3 months i was cylcing at least 8 mile a day somtimes up 20 mile some days,also ive fished eyemoth several times in the last 10 years , been to balcary which is a canny walk ,and lots of rock shots along the norheast coast so if youve not any more pains and taking your medication regular i dont see a problem, but as said before check with doctor to be on the safe side he knows best

i was just wondering if the skipper would refuse me as hes in charge not me doctor ,
like going abroad now insurance is higher 4 me coz of what happened so just wondered like what position regarding charter boats was ,,suppose best ask 1 lol

You should ask the individual skippers before booking your place.

On the day, with all the anglers aboard, I used to ask the question;

Has anyone had any heart problems, diabetes or any other problems that we should know about?
If no one answered yes then our insurance company could not be held responsible for any future claims made against it. The trip would proceed.

If someone said yes, and it happened once to us, then we are in a dilemma. If we refused to take the angler, the trip could be cancelled. If it went ahead and the angler died, some no win no fee solicitor would sue us, and our insurance company would still be blameless. That is why my charter boat business was a limited company.

Your doctor would certainly advise you not to go, because he dosent want claims made against him either.

So, if you want to go fishing and leave everyone in the clear, you will have to lie.

you must inform/check with skipper even if doc says go for it,if you do take ill at sea the big yellow canary can get to you as quick as an ambulance.there are many issues to consider,but start with your doc(and the best of luck with it all

You could wrap yourself in cotton wool and live a tad longer but you will probably just bore yourself to death!!! If you fancy a few days fishing just go just go for it mate.
I do not wish to appear flippant as you obviously have concerns but when it comes to stress etc, there can be no better therapy than fishing.
