Daiwa saltist 30

Are these really the best of the best lads? Thinking about a new reel as I have an old abu 7000 at the min which is the Swedish built one and wanting a reel with a faster retrieve etc. Was gonna buy one brand new like if I do decide to go for one but not totally sure yet. I've got a brand new abu 7000 still in the box never used which is also the Swedish one so may just keep that as my spare but not sure yet.

I would say so, I've had mine since they came out and they've never let me down. Can't think of anyone else I know who's been disappointed with theirs either. :thumbup: from me.

I just got one m8 and honest there the mutts nuts aint had chance to use it fishing yet but casting wise there class....... and also I have the 50 which really is a winch

yip have to agree with the lads I have the narrow spool version and also had 30 h as well great line retrieval and build quality brilliant for rough stuff

I have the 30H and 30TH (silver ones)and they are both very solid reels (apart from they scratch very easily). I wouldn't go for the TH in hindsight as I find the retrieve TOO fast and you can ''bump'' fish off coming in too quick. I just have to remember to slow down. I think I saw the 30H Black and Gold in Moonfleet a few weeks ago for £182, but don't quote me on that! I also have a Penn Fathom 15 and this is also a cracking little reel. It doesn't hold as much line as the Saltist but casts just as well and the retrieve is super smooth. Good drags on both reels. I would say for all round fishing, i.e. rock ends and beaches you can't go wrong with the Saltist.
But!! I have seen the Fathom 15 on E-bay (Brand new for £124.99 and free delivery)!! Oh no I can't make my mind up now!!

I have the saltists the old 30 silver and the 30 bg and i think the silver one is a much better reel but that is just my view on them i also have two penn slideys and recently have just been bought a fathom 15 which i
have not had the pleasure of using YET

Ive a silver saltist 30 which i use for 'heavy ground work',can't fault it.Have used it abroad for tuna,stingrays,tope etc.Its a little gem!

I like the look of the fathoms like but read that thread the other day and seen someone said they are useless unless they are magged or something along those lines. Someone said they are too slow with 2 blocks on and too fast with 1 or something

ive had a saltist 30 great for the rough if that's were you fish most. but id go for the fathom casts nice with two blocks in and runs smooth .

Thats the trouble with hear say see if someone will let you cast one, i have 3 great casting reels and also good all rounder BUT i think a saltist 30 is a must for heavy ground just my opinion

Mate ive had mine for 3 seasons and its never let me down!i use mine on all the rock ends around newbeggin and ample aswell as beach.Get santa told you want one.

:thumbup: from me, mine's had some heavy use including cliff fishing and strong tides at the mull. Been a great reel, casts well and solid build.

I've been debating switching to right handed multis cos I haven't got any choices in leftys. I bit the bullet today and bought a saltist 30bg. Been down the ratty for a few casts. It feels fantastic reeling in I popped its cherry and I didn't get a birdie. It's should get better as I get used to reeling with me right hand. I can't wait to get it out and use it properly.
