Stopped using the Horden shop a couple of years ago for the same reasons...
NETS in Grangetown is usually spot on, and like the other lads have said Moonfleet is excellent too. I live in Durham city so wherever I get bait from it is usually a trek, unless I can get out of work a bit early to get to NETS before they close up for the day.
alreet greg.., tend to use nets in sunderland but have also been using dragoncarp . i honestly say i cant grumble at what i get. they are abit more on price than coast road but no dissapointments ...
This thread has got me thinking (dangerous). Its been far to long since I last shore fished, when I did I got my bait from either Johns at Wallsend, Temples/Fraser's Whitley Bay or McDermott Blyth and if pushed Billy's North Shields or I.D. Byker. . I know two of the five have ceased trading and three did supply good rag/lug. Where else North of the Tyne can you get good bait from.
Dragon carp bit dearer but the lug you get 25 worms been in this morn they've got lug in and other frozen bait.No rag till next friday.(from what I seen the lug looked canny)
