aye mate it was an utterly fantastic sight, have heard of sharks a few mile off when lads have have been boat fishing , but never expected to see a shark off shields pier never mind one swmming a few yards off pier wall
towards the shore,, even though it was mainly small stuff getting caught and lots of it, it well worth going fishing yesterday, again afantastiic sight:D:D:D:D

Do you get any basking sharks off the northeast coast ? if it was a thresher shark they are man-eaters close the beaches chief, norman get a bigger boat

was at south shields pier in the harbour there was 2 of them i think unless the was 1 of them thresher sharks with its tail sticking up behind it. if it was just the 1 shark it must of been a canny size. they swam past the small wall where they got spotted then they were hanging about the steps in the wheel my mate has a few pics and videos of the shark.

A common sight on the west coast in the Gulf Stream, occasional visitors to the North Sea.
Basking Sharks are pretty lonely characters.
Their tail fin is nearly as bulky looking as their dorsal fin. Average 20 - 25 feet long. May have looked like two, but probably one.

Whilst anchored in the Ascension Island a Whale Shark swam under us. Now thats one H U G E fish. An enormous black mass with white spots.

Excellent spotting, beats the usual Sea Gull !
