Does a skipper have an advantage or a disadvantage when fishing at the same time as his crew (even tho he does the navigation and is the last line down) ???? its a arguement for catching nowt sometimes(skipper) but lets hear the crews views ??????

I suppose a good skipper will be a martyr to the cause and try his best to get into the fish for all on board, if he gets a line out, thats a bonus. So I suppose the answer is, that if the skipper wants to catch fish as much as those on board, he is a bit disadvantaged,

then again if your just going to anchor up somewhere it should be even stevens

I\'d say disadvantage, last line in, last at the bait, no time to sort gear etc, but having said that, never seems to effect you!!!!

Hi Bert,

Gotta say if it\'s drifting your doing any good mates / crew will have set your rod etc...up for you before each drift. If not make them walk the plank !!! When anchoring it shouldn\'t make too much difference.

The Volante skipper nearly always gets most of the \"good fish\" anyway. I think once the skipper does his job it\'s mainly down to luck !!!

Cheers,

First Officer Jeff.

if the drift is set up right with a few minutes to spare theres no problem ,just a paying punter

its only fair to set up the skippers gear while he finds the wreck, thats what i used to do when fishing with Norman....as i tend to fish mainly by myself i bait and tackle up before i leave the wreck and am then ready to fish as soon as i reposition the boat for another drift

C`mon, bert, you know the answer as well as I do ..........
Who is the only one on board to know EXACTLY where the wreck is in relation to the drift, ............ LOL :) we dont cast out lines a few yards our just for the fun of it do we ;) ;) ;) .... but shhhhhh :)

ps good crew always has the skippers tackle baited ............ :)

I would say a disadvantage because the skipper is always watching for the wreck on the screen, turn of tide resulting in drift direction cnahnge and so on. As Norman says, if the crew help out baiting up and so on it makes it better for everyone.

Well i think the other skippers should have a word with my crew with regards to the baiting up while the skipper is navigating and w/k positioning etc.......... coz they do fookin nowt like that 4 me..lol
I personally think that the skipper is at a huge ADVANTAGE when it comes to wk fishing(drifting)because he knows exactly where the w/k is and can either wait till the right moment or cast in the relavant direction.... ;)

Bert,
so is that why you start the drift about half a mile away, then that gives kieth a chance to anchor you directly on top of the wreck giving you time to bait up

bert i bait your hooks up

banana skin doesnt catch many fish
lol

i also put your reel in to ratchet mode aswell

hahaha
