dogs on beach

thing is, and I'm not trying to be controversial here, but when has any wildlife been damaged or hurt due to a bit of dog sh/te, ok i agree it,s not very pleasant for us humans but natural biodegradable waste is great for lots of different plants and animals along our shore line, as it breaks down it gives of nutrients and enzymes which is excellent for plant life and even more for plankton which feed off this stuff ,reproduced make more plankton which feed larger animals etc. whist the rubbish some anglers leave i.e line ,plastic bags and bottles are extremely dangerous to all types of animals living on our beaches, i don't personally like to see dog sh/ye on our beaches ,but there again I'm not a plankton.

exactly my point (ish) i agree with korky with dog mess etc but there is a massive prob also if not more with messy inconsiderit anglers

and G force what ever you do, dont rub dog s**t in ur eyes:D

Seem to remember something about dog-cack causing blindness in young children, can't remember the medical causes behind this though......

Gary :)

It's a bacteria or parasite, a similar one is found in cat poop which affects unborn children - so pregnant mums are told not to clean the cat litter tray themselves. There's loads of others though.

I hate these "owners" that let their dogs run wild though - we walk our 2 collies on Druridge or Cambois early in the mornings to avoid other dog owners, because both of ours were attacked while on their leads as pups while the other dogs were running wild, so now they hate other dogs and strangers, my wife had her coat ripped open down the back by one dog jumping up at her when she picked one of ours up as a pup to protect him, got a load of verbal off the bloke and he just walked off. 5am - 5.30am we go out with ours just to get a quite clear beach.... AND we pick up after them no matter where we are.

It really does not matter what people think about dog crap.
It is law,i think, that owners pick it up and remove it.
So unless we want to simply pick and choose which laws we want to obey it should be enforced if it is being ignored.
As to other problems with litter from anglers or visitors to the beach then that is another problem that also needs looking at.
However that does not impact on the dog problem.
It gets on my nerves that some dog owners often mention other mess when dog fouling is brought up.
2 wrongs do not make a right

Yep and what i really do not understand is when on Blyth beach i will see the little bags of dog crap that the owners has picked up laid out on the sand or on differing bits of various wooden structures up and down the beach.
Just where does the owners think they are going to go?
The magic pixie dog turd collecting fairy get them??

It's not just the beaches either, try walking in a certain country park in North Tyneside or Gosforth Park, there are signs up everywhere asking to keep dogs on a leash, and clean up after them, but do they hell.

There are a small minority of responsible owners who clean up after their dogs, but very few keep them under control and on a leash.

I have found that it seems MOST dog owners think that when there dog stops crapping in the house and comes to them when they call,if the dog wants to then it is trained.
Nope it ain't,that is just the start

The parasite is called Toxoplasmosis and can cause blindness. It is ingested by children playing in contaminated areas and not washing their hands and travels from the gut into the bloodstream. If the parasite gets into the eye from here, the whiteblood cells attack the parasite and cause surrounding tissue damage to the retina...hence the blindness.

Makes me shake my head whenever I take my pup down Lowsteads road (Longhoughton), as there is a dog poop bin at the entrance to the local footy pitch, yet the hedgerows along the path from here for around 200 yards is covered with dog poop bags just chucked lazily away...it's like a poopy smelling badly decorated Christmas tree....

Lazyness at the end of the day!

Thing is as anglers where there is loads of rubbished left which encourages rats, they are also opening the possibility of others picking up Leptosporosis....Very Nasty!

You can also pick this up from cattle, so if I am ever fishing from the beach I NEVER leave my catch in rockpools that have stood for a while!

more bloody rules and laws brought in im getting ****ed off with this country where the hell are you supposed to exercise your dog ? i hope the council know its an offense to not exercise your dog im sure the rspca would confirm that

Maybe the thought should be before you get a dog where can i exercise it?
I really think that bringing in some kind of licence fee that would pay for dog only areas/parks would be a good thing.
Dog owners would be able to take the pets to places that THEY have shall we say right of way.
Anyone going there could not moan about dogs running around.
Plus the rules on collecting their pets crap could be enforced.
Maybe even have some of the licence fee go towards the RSPCA.
I have no doubt that some dog owners would object to that but the problem of dogs;or rather owners not keeping control of the dogs and dog crap is an issue that comes up time and time again.
Needs a solution

this is rediculous, dog owners have every right to watk their dogs on beaches, if you are on about having to pay licence fee for where you can walk ur dog then mabey the same shud apply to sea anglers:rolleyes:

if it ment proper policing/patroling of each i would be happy to pay a reasonable licence fee for each;)

I have a staffie bitch which i walk on Headland beach when i visit. If she has a sh-te i pick it up in a poo bag then put it in the bins on the prom front.
When fishing off this beach i,ve lost count how many dogs come over and cock thier legs up at my fishing box or rod stand. I,m not bothered usually just shoo them off. 9 times out of ten the owners are lasses anyway so i have bit of a chin wag.
Mick.

Thats genius lol. Look your dog's ****ed on me box, I'm mick ;) o/j mate lol

On some beaches they don't and i fail to see why anyone one group, anglers, dog owners or simply people who make a mess feel they have a right.
If a right is abused it can and will be removed.
Lets face it at one time dogs were allowed to roam the street and crap all over them.
No doubt owners thought that was a right,it isn't now.
Times and rights change.
Others may also say they have the right to walk on beaches without out of control dogs and crap.
if it ment proper policing/patroling of each i would be happy to pay a reasonable licence fee for each;)
That was my point.
People are moaning about dog crap and dogs not under control so a dog only area would solve both problems.

Try Chopwell Woods - the scum there bag it then hang it from the tree's like Xmas baubles, sends the Friends of Chopwell mental.
