Finally found some stainless bar to make my drop gaff!
I lost 2 good fish on the lift this season, one in October off frenchmans estimated low double, I managed to handball a 7lber in the same session!. and another in December off the barrier about 8lbs, then finally landed a 12lb.8oz cod in January off seaham north, after a long walk around to the steps!
So I've made this! :o
Hopefully ill get to use it next season.

Aye that should do the trick mate. I see you've gone for barbless to give the fish a chance like.:D

looks the buis m8, was thinking of making one meself, saw a lad loose a cracking fish on the end of tynemouth pier, it would break my heart to loose a big fish like that.

One problem with that is the 2 spikes that are not in the fish can catch on pier wall or cliff.
You need one like this, taken from an Australian design. It can be clipped around the line and goes directly over the fish.
Plus the gaffs point inwards so don,t catch on anything.

I hear ya mate, its a better design, but wouldn't fancy lugging it around though!
I've got a 100kilo chord with a karabina on the end for the gaff, and another karabina 6 foot up to clip onto the mainline.
I can't see the other hooks being a massive problem, once the fish is on it will tilt slightly making the other points less prone to snagging.
Better than trying to handball a lip hooked double!
And I will lend it you should you need it!:D

looks like a handy Peace of kit especially if you get a fish like Pete's i would hate to drop a fish of that size for the sake of not carrying something like this;)

who needs tools when ya have hands that has pulled up a few doubles this winter ..oops i have also shook off a couple decent fish also :D
